  I went to Dr. Cary Silverman at EyeCare 20/20 7 years ago for Lasek eye surgery. Over the years, things have gone from bad to worse and the recommendation is now to have a corneal transplant to fix the issues resulting directly from the eye surgery.
  
  Needless to say, I had a prolonged experience with the group due to complications experienced with my surgery and have several issues with what happened:
  
  1) Poor transparency regarding the procedure, potential complications, and explanation of complications when they happened
  (a) Poor transparency regarding potential complications: I had advanced near-sightedness and thanks to my own research, I knew that the complication rate was high. This was not evident from my communications from Dr. Silverman. I decided (thank goodness) on my own to do one eye at a time but was discouraged from this by Dr. Silverman and his staff. I was also assured that since my night vision was already poor, it would not deteriorate .
  (b) Lack of concern and attention to complications after surgery: I experienced high level of pain from Lasek (turns out literature has shown over time that Lasek is just as painful as PRK and therefore has no advantages), corneal scarring, and loss of night vision (especially important as my job required driving at night). Despite this, Dr. Silverman still recommended a "touch up" surgery after the 1st surgery did not yield 20/20 results, and this left only the minimal thickness of my cornea. He did not say this would result in further complications. This ended up being a disaster, leaving not only corneal scarring and loss of night vision, but FAR sightedness which progressed exponentially after the fact. There was no explanation or concern expressed about this. I have seen since multiple eye specialists who don't know how I can see given the disparity of far-sightedness in 1 eye and near-sightedness in another eye. Within a year, I had to wear corrective glasses/contacts for the far-sightedness. By the way, another complication to the procedure is your cornea ends up being flat, so contact lenses cannot fit on your eye properly. I have also since received the explanation of progressive far-sightedness from another specialist because of how thin and unstable my remaining cornea is. This means a corneal transplant is the only way to fix it.
  
  2) Poor service. Despite the complications from my surgery, there was no follow-up or level of concern from the clinic. The staff were very rude and disrespectful. For example, I was 5-10min late for an appointment because i was vomiting outside of the clinic from side effects from the Lyrica pain medication given for the Lasek procedure, and the staff were very rude about my being late. The technicians rushed us through like an assembly line, without so much as a "hello".
  
  Overall, do your research and proceed with caution. Profit from numbers of procedures done seem to be more important than actual patient care, and expect completely negligent care if you experience any complications.
